They’re a Hollywood couple that’s rarely seen in public together but earlier this week, Kerry Washington and her husband, Nnamdi Asomugha, made a date night appearance at The Landmark Theatre in NYC on Monday, Nov. 26. The duo stepped out for a movie screening of If Beale Street Could Talk that was hosted by Kerry.

The film follows the life of a pregnant Harlem woman who desperately tries to clear her husband’s name for a crime that he didn’t commit. At the screening, Kerry, 41, stunned in a chocolate and cream colored sweater worn with a pair of blue jeans. Her husband also opted to wear casual clothes and looked handsome in a navy blue blazer on top of a grey and black T-shirt.

Since Kerry has always said that theater has been very close to her heart, it’s no surprise that she would take her husband to a movie screening in NYC. “Theater is a big part of why I fell in love with storytelling and with acting,” she said in a previous interview with Marie Claire. “The last time I did theater, it completely transformed my life. That’s where I met my husband.”

Kerry even describes herself as a “nerdy theater kid” in the interview and she’s now starring in a Broadway Play called American Son. “There’s something very meditative and monastic to me about theater because in TV, every single day is different,” she explained. “To commit yourself to going to the same place and saying the same words and walking the same path, it’s almost like a labyrinth.”

The last time that Kerry was spotted outside at an event with her husband was at the 2018 Tony Awards this past June. Hopefully, he will make a special appearance before her last American Son performance in January — we can only hope!
