Kelly Ripa Breaks Down in Tears After Dyslexic Son Joaquin Gets Straight A’s

She can’t help it, she’s a proud mom! Kelly Ripa had us all choked up during Live With Kelly and Ryan on Wednesday, Oct. 25 when she shared that her dyslexic son, Joaquin, 14, got straight A’s on his high school report card!

The 47-year-old was really nervous about this next chapter for Joaquin when he started his freshman year in September. “A lot of you that watch the show know he has dyslexia, so school has always been a very big challenge for us in our household,” Kelly told the audience. But after a recent parent-teacher conference, Kelly learned her little boy is doing better than ever!

She said the studious Joaquin was “laughing so hard at me crying because I think it made him so uncomfortable. I said, ‘I’m so proud of you.'” So sweet! Kelly’s emotional family story even had Ryan in tears — yes, they were both dabbing at their watery eyes together!

This isn’t the first time Kelly has told funny school stories about her and husband Mark Consuelos’ youngest boy (the duo are also parents to a son Michael, 20, and daughter Lola, 16). Apparently, Joaquin once brought a book about stripper pole to school on accident! “This is still the greatest school memory we have,” Kelly once confessed. “Nowadays, parents are so careful and they’re so good at parenting and I became that mom.”

Do you know who thinks Kelly is a great mom? Ryan. “I see the way you handle career, and most importantly family… and it’s so impressive,” he said to his co-host on air. “I am inspired by it, and anybody who knows you and watches you agrees. When my mom cries, it makes me cry, so when you cry, it makes me cry.”
