Even though Katie Couric has been married to John Molner since 2014, that doesn’t mean she has forgotten all about her first husband, Jay Monahan. She paid tribute to her late beau by sharing a sweet post via Instagram on what would have been their 30th anniversary if Jay didn’t pass away from colon cancer at age 42.

“Dear Jay … It’s June 10, 2019 and today would have been our 30th anniversary. I hope you would be proud of the way I’ve lived my life and know you’d be proud of your girls who have grown into incredible young women,” Katie wrote online. “I think you would like @johnmolner who honors your memory and knows there is room in my heart for you both. ❤️With love, me.”

“PS I’m glad they didn’t let you escape in that last photo! And sorry for the pouffy hat … I was trying to look jaunty,” the journalist continued. Jay is survived by two adult daughters — Elinor, 27, and Caroline, 23. Even though he and Katie are obviously no longer together, Katie has found an equal amount of happiness with John.

“They really enjoy each other’s company, and Katie loves having a partner to come home to and have date nights with,” an insider previously shared with Closer Weekly. “Katie and John are so happy!”

John also respects the fact that Katie will always have love for Jay. “I think about him all the time,” she revealed to Closer. “We still have photos of Jay all over the place and I try to keep him alive in our day-to-day interactions. I honored him by raising two pretty great kids who have a lot of him in them.”

Our thoughts go out to Katie and Jay’s kids on this special day. From the sound of it, he sounds like an amazing person, husband and father.
