Rest in peace. Kathy Griffin took to Instagram on Friday, Sept. 15 to sadly reveal that her sister Joyce Griffin has passed away after her battle with cancer. The comedienne shared a sweet tribute video for Joyce taken shortly before her death.

“My sister Joyce passed away peacefully last night. Check out this beautiful moment,” the 56-year-old wrote in her caption. The video featured Joyce smiling in awe as a singer performed a song for her in her hospital room.

The song continued to play as more photos of Joyce flashed by. The end of the video featured a cartoon depiction of Joyce lounging on the beach with a message that read, “This is where she always wanted to be [and] now she’s having a mai tai on the beach in heaven.”

Kathy also provided a link to the American Cancer Society and urged fans to donate, and many of her followers flooded the comments section with their condolences. “I am so sorry for your loss. Praying for you and your family,” one fan wrote, and another commented, “So sorry, Kathy. Sending you and your family love.”

It was unclear what type of cancer Joyce was diagnosed with, but Kathy has always been supportive of her sister through her battle with the disease. Back in July, Kathy shaved her head in solidarity with her sister in her fight against cancer and she received a ton of praise for her sweet gesture — and her mom Maggie Griffin couldn’t help but gush over how proud she felt. “My daughter Kathleen Mary is a wonderful human being,” Maggie tweeted at the time.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time cancer has taken a member of the Griffin family. In 2014, Kathy’s older brother Gary Griffin passed away at 63 years old after battling stage 4 esophageal cancer.
