In order to make her last week on the Today show as memorable as possible, Kathie Lee Gifford surprised her cohost Hoda Kotb with a sweet gift that made her burst out into tears during a Monday, April 1, episode of the morning program.

“What do I get my Hoda for 11 years of being the joy and honor of sitting next to you. I know you love it when I give you paintings but this is by Sydney Clawson, a new friend of mine in Nashville,” she said before pulling the cloth off of a drape-covered gift. “She’s brilliant and I think you’re going to like this one, Hoda.”

With Hoda’s help, Kathie Lee, 65, then unveiled her friend’s gift which showed a beautiful portrait of Hoda, 54, hugging her 2-year-old daughter, Haley Joy Kotb. Underneath the sketch it read, “My joy is non-negotiable” and once Hoda took one look at the portrait, she immediately walked over to Kathie Lee to give her a hug while fighting back her tears. How sweet!

Kathie Lee’s gift was perfect for Hoda because the mom-of-one previously told People that the only thing she’s ever wanted was to be a mother. “There was a hole,” she said about how she felt before adopting Haley. “People would say, ‘Oh, do you have kids?’ And I’d feel like, ‘Ouch.’ I knew inside it was supposed to be for me.”

But once Haley came into Hoda’s life, she realized that nothing feels better than being a mother. “I wake up sometimes and go, ‘Oh my God, I have a baby!’” she gushed. “But it feels totally real. I guess if you’ve been waiting this long for something, and you wish for it, pray for it, hope for it, wonder if it will ever be, and then it happens, nothing’s more real. Nothing.”
