Katharine, 34, is currently starring in the title role of Jenna in the musical at London’s West End, and while audiences are loving it, the American Idol alum wants the Duchess of Sussex, 37, to come watch as well. The pals went to the same Los Angeles High School and actually performed in musicals together when they were just teens. The duo also recently crossed paths in London recently when they both attended the WE Day charity event at Wembley Arena.
“She was lovely and she remembered me,” Katharine told The Standard. “She remembered my sister more specifically because they were in the same class, and she said, ‘I’m just sitting around waiting for the baby to come.’” The singer added, “I’d like her to come to the show — but no pressure on her, I’m hoping she will and I’m going to invite her through some mutual friends.”
Earlier this year, the House Bunny costar, revealed an unseen photo of she and the former actress with the caption, “Meghan and I did musicals together as kids. She grew up to be the Duchess of Sussex and I grew up to star on the West End, so same life.” And while Katharine isn’t exactly hanging out in the royal family these day like the Suits alum, she is still entertaining audiences with her stage role, as she said the response has been “amazing.”
“People said the audiences are different in the US and the UK and they are more reserved in the UK but I have not found that at all,” she revealed.
The show’s director, Diane Paulus, pondered how British audiences would respond to a story set in America. “I thought is this going to play? This very American story about life in a small town and then we hit that first preview and the rest was history,” she said, adding, “The audience came, they rooted for the characters, they understood the humor, they understood the real people depicted in the show because this is a musical about real, messy, people.”
We are hoping the royal pair end up accepting Katharine’s invite!
