Don’t worry, Kate Middleton, we’ve all been there. You may remember when the Duchess of Cambridge debuted a brand new set of bangs back in fall 2015. At the time, Kate’s drastic haircut, frankly, made everyone freak out whether they loved the look or hated her ‘do.

A few months after Kate’s bangs appeared, however, it became clear that the now mom-of-three — she shares kids Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 3, and Prince Louis, 7 months, with husband Prince William — was growing out her hair and letting her newly chopped bangs go. But why? Apparently, according to reports at the time, Kate totally regretted the decision to cut her long brunette locks and even felt pressured by Queen Elizabeth to change her hair.

“I was a bit unsure about it. I call it my mum fringe,” Kate allegedly once said of her bangs, according to the UK’s The Sun newspaper. Rumors also reportedly swirled that the Queen suggested Kate don a more “sensible” hairdo and thus influenced the chop. “It was suggested that Kate was quietly advised to swap the glamour girl hairdo she sported at Wimbledon in July for a length deemed more appropriate for a high profile member of the royal family,” the Daily Mail reported in 2015.

Since Kate’s decision to get bangs three years ago, the Duchess has made lots of other simple changes to her long hair but none quite as drastic as her “mum fringe.” One thing that has stayed consistent the past few years is Kate’s go-to hairdresser, Amanda Cook Tucker, who recently revealed the royal’s favorite hair products in a since-deleted Instagram post.

According to People, Cook Tucker uses Kiehl’s Creme with Silk Groom to keep Kate’s hair looking shiny and near-perfect. The best part? The affordable product costs just $16 and can be purchased at Sephora! In addition to Kiehl’s Creme with Silk Groom, Kate apparently uses L’Oréal’s Elnett’s Supreme Hold Hairspray ($14.99), Charles Worthington’s Volume & Bounce Texturizing Spray ($9.96), and Boots’ Essential Hairspray Maximum Hold Unperfumed ($2.84).
