She might be royal, but there was no VIP treatment for Kate Middleton on her 36th birthday on Tuesday, Jan. 9 since the Duchess opted for the day to be very low-key — but not before her family rung in another big milestone! The selfless mom-of-two made sure her daughter Princess Charlotte was the center of attention by snapping a series of adorable new portraits to mark Charlotte’s first day of nursery school the day before Kate’s birthday.

And according to Hello! Online, Kate spent her birthday out of the spotlight with her nearest and dearest. “She will be spending the day privately,” Kate’s Deputy Communications Secretary told the website.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are pleased to share a new photograph of their family. The image features on Their Royal Highnesses' Christmas card this year. Meanwhile, the Daily Star Online claimed the Duchess, who is due to give birth to her third child in April, celebrated with a “small birthday party of eight” at Kensington Palace. “But she is not drinking any alcohol and she is being careful with her food too,” an insider revealed of the pregnant royal.

It’s believed the VIPs who landed a coveted invite to the intimate bash included William and Kate’s good friends Guy Pelly and his wife, Elizabeth Wilson. Kate’s BFF and Princess Charlotte’s godmother Sophie Carter was apparently also there, and it’s believed her sister Pippa Middleton and brother-in-law James Matthews popped by.

And perhaps one of the games the group played during the swanky soiree was “What’s your unicorn name?” On the eve of Kate’s birthday, her family’s successful Party Pieces company took to Facebook to upload a hilarious chart which selects your unicorn name based on your initials and the birth of your month. So, what is the birthday girl Kate’s nickname? Giddy Twinkle Toes. Wishing Giddy Twinkle Toes aka Kate the happiest of birthdays!
