Kate Hudson Reveals if Eldest Son Ryder Is Headed in Family Show Business Footsteps

While Kate Hudson opened up about her childhood and parenthood journey, the actress revealed if her eldest son, Ryder Robinson, is going to follow in the family’s footsteps in Hollywood.

During a Thursday, February 20, chat on BBC Radio 2, Kate, 45, reflected on a quote she once said about her famous mother, Goldie Hawn, whom she said instantly saw her stardom as a kid.

“And I can see it in my son,” the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star said of Ryder, 21. “Now, you know when your kid has that. He doesn’t know it yet, but I do, and I think my parents [Bill Hudson and Goldie] kind of have the same thing.”

Kate repeatedly gushed that her eldest son has “got it” before listing his talents.

“It’s so crazy to hear that because my son is literally in performing arts school right now. He’s 21. Ah! Well, he’ll be fine,” she continued. “Because he’s so funny and he’s so smart, he’s very self-possessed and, and he’s an amazing person.”

Kate welcomed Ryder on January 7, 2004, with ex-husband Chris Robinson. The Raising Helen actress gave birth to son Bingham “Bing” Bellamy, 13, with former partner Matt Bellamy on July 9, 2011. Kate and fiancé Danny Fujikawa welcomed daughter Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa, 6, on October 2, 2018.

“And I just know that, you know, I think our family does a really good job of, like – kids have a hard time thinking that they have to do something so significant, which means to them be seen,” Kate continued on BBC Radio 2. “But like, significance is, like, if you’re happy putting what you’re putting out in the world, you know? And I hope that – I think he’s got that, I think he’s going to be alright.”

The Glass Onion actress always swoons over her son and the man he’s become. In fact, she previously admitted that she doesn’t mind that he’s becoming a young adult.

“People kind of go, ‘I want to freeze [my kids] when they’re little.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t, actually.’ I’m having a blast,” Kate said during a 2019 appearance on the Rachael Ray Show. “I can’t wait to go to a bar with my kid — is that weird? He’s so much fun!”

Not to mention, Ryder has always been a loving older brother to his younger siblings. That being said, the oldest photo on his Instagram is a sweet photo of his sister, Rani. The picture captured a pure moment of Ryder giving Rani a gentle kiss on her forehead while they swam poolside.

Ryder is also close with Bing, who is a spitting image of his older brother.

Kate shared rare photos of Bing via Instagram in June 2024, while on vacation with her family. In the photo, River gazed into the golden hour as a patch of sun highlighted his face.

“Looks just like River Phoenix when he was young,” one fan wrote in the comments section, while a second person added, “Stop, I thought this was young River Phoenix!”
