Even though Julianne Hough is taking a break from Dancing With the Stars, her husband Brooks Laich officially wants to compete on the hit ABC show — and for the sweetest reason! The hockey pro was recently asked whether he’d ever consider appearing on the show, to which he said, “You know what, I would.”

The 34-year-old even cited the most romantic reason why. “I would because I want to learn technically how to lead my wife,” he added during an interview with Access. “She said we dance in the kitchen. I try and lead, I try and have a presence of leadership, but I don’t technically know how to move her the way that she’s been moved in her life. It’s weird to say, man, it’s weird to say, but I would do the show just to be able to have that education.” How sweet is that?! Even though it probably won’t be possible — with Julianne taking a step back from the show — how cool would it be if she and Brooks got to compete together on the show?

With the upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars quickly approaching — the 26th season is set to premiere in late April — Julianne will be one familiar face who sadly won’t be returning. “Just new chapters of life. I mean, I love the show. I’ll always be a part of either the show somehow — Dancing With the Stars — or just being a part of like the movement of dance,” the 29-year-old said, explaining the reasoning behind her much-deserved break from the show.

“It really has been a movement of dance in the last 10 years between all the different shows that have really elevated and put dancers on a platform that I feel like they deserve,” Julianne continued. “Usually dancers are in the background supporting, but they’re at the forefront right now and it makes me so happy that I was a part of that journey too.”

Dancing With the Stars is set to return with a four-week special athletes edition premiering on April 30 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
