Poor Joy Behar! The TV personality was absent from The View on Monday, June 11, leaving many fans concerned about the 75-year-old. So it turns out, she was hospitalized over the weekend after she accidentally cut her hand with a knife while trying to open an avocado.

She shared the scary story on the talk show Tuesday, June 12. "Saturday night, on my way to the event at the retreat, I stabbed myself in the hand with a knife," she shared. "I was trying to desperately eat something, so I was trying to open up an avocado and I stuck the knife into the pit to get it out… and I stabbed myself." Joy went on to explain that she "never had pain quite so intense, it was awful."

She continued, "Apparently, there is a syndrome called Avocado Hand. It’s real. And the doctor said, 'Oh, we get this all the time,'" she explained. "So anytime you’re holding the item and you try to cut it, you can get this. So what happened was I guess there must have been an infection, they put me in the hospital overnight."

Joy then joked about how she won't be making guacamole in the future. "I was thinking instead of this, I’m going to leave the dicing to Rachael Ray and I’m only going to buy ready-made guacamole," she quipped.

It's nice to see Joy taking a comical approach to such a serious situation. In a previous exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, she revealed why being funny is so essential. "A sense of humor is a very precious thing, and not everybody has it," she shared. "I feel sorry for people who don’t because it gets you through the day. If you have it, you should cultivate it — it’s a sign of sanity." She continued, "I’ve learned a million things, all sorts of lessons — I could go on for days. Don’t hold back, say what’s on your mind, and be good to the people you love." We're just glad she's feeling better!
