Joanna Gaines On Adding A Fifth Child To Her Family: ‘It Gave Me An Extra Kick In My Step’
If there’s one thing everyone knows about Joanna Gaines and Chip Gaines, it’s that they can do it all — and successfully! Not only is the couple a mom and dad to five kids, but they’ve also juggled an HGTV show, home renovations, cookbooks, restaurants, home lines with Target, and more all at the same time in the past. In a new interview with People, the superwoman opened up about how she does it all.
You’d think baby number five would have thrown a monkey-wrench into their busy lives, but it actually did quite the opposite. In fact, Joanna, 40, says, that Crew, who was born in July, “gave me an extra kick in my step.” She added, “It woke me up a little bit. Life was doing its thing, and this baby — typically you feel tired, but this baby, he’s just like my second wind.”
In a previous interview, Joanna admitted that getting pregnant was a total surprise — in a good way. “I had been feeling a little emotional and crazy and thought, ‘Wow, this isn’t me,'” the 40-year-old revealed to People prior to welcoming her son. “Then all of a sudden I realized, ‘Hey, I remember this.’ When I saw the results of the test, my jaw dropped. Chip was in the driveway about to leave when I called him back and said, ‘We’re pregnant!’ He was so excited. We’re both just so excited.”
She also gushed to Life & Style that the couple’s four other kids, Drake, 13, Ella Rose, 11, Duke, 10, Emmie Kay, 8, were also super excited to expand their family. “The best thing about all of this is the excitement that my kids have shown for their new baby brother,” she said at the time.
And now, the Gaines family is just one big happy brood soaking in the pleasures of life. “We are just really enjoying this sweet season with a newborn and going to the office every day doing the things that we love,” Joanna gushed to People.
But while Chip and Joanna are enjoying all the family time they can get right now, Joanna, of course, still has another project up her sleeve. Her design book, Homebody: A Guide To Creating Spaces You Never Want to Leave, comes out on Nov. 6, and she’s excited to see how it resonates with fans. “I feel like it’s my life’s work,” she shared. “I love the way that I had to learn with trial and error. That’s why I really believe people can do this.” We can’t wait to read it!
