HGTV star and lifestyle guru Joanna Gaines seems like she’s got it all. But, according to a new report, the 40-year-old is actually struggling with being a busy new mom-of-five after welcoming her baby boy, Crew, in late June. 

Since Crew’s birth, Joanna “has barely had any time for herself. It’s been a shock to the system,” an insider told In Touch in the magazine’s latest issue, on newsstands now. “There’s an eight-year difference between Crew and Emmie Kay, and Joanna certainly has noticed the difference between having a baby in her 40s and being in her 20s or early 30s. She’s exhausted!”

“Chip [Gaines] and Joanna have always been go-getters and are used to working around the clock, but they just didn’t realize how different their lives would become with a newborn thrown in the mix,” the source continued. 

In addition to baby Crew, Joanna and her husband, Chip, 43, are also parents to four older kids, Drake, 13, Ella Rose, 12, Duke, 12, and Emmie Kay, 8. Recently, Joanna herself has admitted that being a parent to five kids is very stressful at times. “Motherhood can be difficult. When you’re changing diapers of listening to whining constantly, it can feel overwhelming,” she said. 

“Since Crew’s birth, I have a new understanding of the reality of the phrase, ‘It takes a village.’ I feel like I’m a first-time mom all over again,” she wrote in the fall issue of The Magnolia Journal. “Part of being capable is surrounding myself with people who are strong when I am weak and willing to lend a hand when I am in need of help.”

Thankfully, the self-described “textbook control freak” has received a lot of support from her hubby of 15 years. “Chip is always willing to help out, he changes diapers and bathes Crew,” the source told In Touch of the couple. 

“[But] Joanna is usually the one who gets up in the night. She’s a multitasker. She knows what she’s capable of and has made it clear to Chip that if things get to be too much for her, she’ll let him know,” the insider continued. 

Despite the stress, the insider said Chip and Jo “wouldn’t change a thing,” and are even considering expanding their family more by having a sixth baby! “It if happens, it happens. They’re leaving it in the hands of God,” the source shared.
