She was quite content with her big brood of four kiddos, but Joanna Gaines said her life changed for the better when she and husband Chip Gaines found out they were expecting baby No. 5 last year.

“I kid with people, ‘If you ever want to feel young again, have a baby at 40,'” the Fixer Upper star recently joked to People about welcoming baby Crew last June. “It’s brought this whole new thing for me where I’m a lot more laid-back. People joke that I’m the ‘Fun Jo’ now.”

Joanna — who is also the mom to Drake, 14, Ella Rose, 12, Duke 10, and Emmy Kay, 9 — said baby Crew completely changed her entire outlook on life. “I realized there has to be spontaneity, and schedules kind of go out the door,” she explained. “It’s like, ‘Hey, if I don’t get to it, it’s fine.’ I’ve just relaxed so much more, and it’s been fun for me.”

Since Jo and Chip, 44, have their hands full running an empire, the home decor guru said it helps that Crew, 9 months, loves constantly being by his mama’s side. “He’s my little sidekick,” Jo gushed. “He comes to work with me every day and goes to all my meetings. There’s literally a sign-up sheet because everyone wants to hold him.”

Although the duo has yet to celebrate baby Crew’s first birthday, Chip and Jo have already discussed the possibility of having another child. When asked if she wanted to add another baby to their household, Jo quipped, “Heck if I know. I thought I was done, and then we had Crew. But Chip always joking that he wants him to have a little sister. No plans for another baby but, then again, we’ve never been planners anyway.”

While the We Are the Gardeners author and her hubby continue to enjoy their well-deserved break between the ending of their show and the beginning of their new cable TV network, Joanna has been laying low at home and soaking up every second of motherhood she possible can. “Time together as a family is a gift,” the HGTV star dished to Southern Living earlier last month.Motherhood means everything to me. Everything else in my life can go away, but that’s my thing — these kids.” Aww!
