Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter started to reflect on his own life when he spoke about resurrection and life after death at a Sunday school service at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia.

“I assumed naturally that I was going to die very quickly,” the 95-year-old said, according to ABC News, while referring his 2015 cancer scare. However, once Jimmy learned he had the deadly disease, he said he didn’t pray to God to let him live. Instead, he wished for the best and understood if that meant him dying.

“I said a prayer about it. I didn’t ask God to let me live, I found that I was absolutely and completely at ease with death,” he confessed during the Sunday church service.

At the end of Jimmy’s speech, he told the congregation that they should all look out for one another because if they have each other’s backs then they’ll become a “better Christian.”

“We make hundreds of thousands of decisions every day,” he said. “Every one of us makes the crucial decision in our life … that this is the kind of person that I myself chose to be.”

In August 2015, Jimmy revealed he had cancer in a statement that he released shortly after he underwent surgery on his liver to remove a mass. “Recent liver surgery revealed that I have cancer that now is in other parts of my body,” he said at the time. “I will be rearranging my schedule as necessary so I can undergo treatment by physicians at Emory Healthcare.”

Since then, the U.S. politician has had three nasty falls. The first time he fell was in spring 2019 and he had to get hip replacement surgery. Then after that, he took one nasty spill in early October and another near the end of the same month.

His fans were so concerned about his health, that Jimmy’s spokesperson released a statement about the incident that occurred at his Atlanta home.

“Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter had a fall yesterday evening at his home in Plains, Georgia. He has been admitted to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center for observation and treatment of a minor pelvic fracture” the statement read. “He is in good spirits and is looking forward to recovering at home.”

We hope Jimmy keeps himself healthy for as long as possible because we’re not OK with the thought of him dying.
