Jim Carrey Heading to Trial in Late Girlfriend Cathriona White's Wrongful Death Lawsuit

A new update has been made in the wrongful death lawsuit surrounding Cathriona White’s September 2015 suicide.

Actor Jim Carrey is set to face trial following the death of his ex-girlfriend. The 55-year-old has been accused by Cathriona’s mother and ex-husband of supplying the drugs which killed the 30-year-old Irish makeup artist.

Jim’s lawyer, Raymond Boucher, has filed a motion to dismiss it. The judge at LA Superior Court has indicated she’d review the motion, though it seems unlikely that she’d throw out the case, setting the trial date to begin on April 26, 2018.

“Mr. Carrey loved Ms. White dearly and so obviously it will be a very painful process for him,” Boucher told the press following the hearing.

Cathriona’s mother, Brigid Sweetman, alleged the actor gave her daughter the prescription drugs she overdosed on. Jim’s lawyer has denied all claims, describing them as “malicious” and “predatory.”

The actor and Cathriona separated just days prior to her passing, and it is believed Jim had messaged her the night before asking about a bottle of painkillers. Her family will also allege that Jim gave Cathriona three sexually transmitted diseases and pressured her to keep it quiet before her death.

In fall 2015, law enforcement officials reportedly found Cathriona’s body next to bottles of the painkiller Percocet, sleep aid Ambien, and blood-pressure medication Propranolol. Authorities allegedly later confirmed the medications were prescribed to Jim under an undisclosed alias.

Following his girlfriend’s death, The Truman Show star released the following statement: “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”

Cathriona and Jim reportedly first began dating in 2012 but split soon after. They then rekindled their romance in May 2015.
