When Seinfeld ended its run nearly 20 years ago, a nation mourned. Alright, granted, that could be a bit of an exaggeration, but it was certainly bummed. And any time we’ve been able to get more of the comedy of Jerry Seinfeld, it’s usually been a pretty special thing (his Crackle series Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee is a good example). Next up will be the first of two Netflix stand-up comedy specials, Jerry Before Seinfeld.

Describes Netflix of the special, “Jerry Seinfeld returns to The Comic Strip for an intimate stand-up set at the club that helped launch his career. Interspersed with never-before-seen material —
including a library of legal pads with every joke he’s written since 1975, childhood videos, and more — Jerry performs the jokes that put him on the comedy map in an hour-long stand-up special, only on Netflix.”

Back in January, the deal between the streaming service and Jerry, 63, was announced, resulting in the two specials. Plus, Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee will be moving from Crackle to Netflix with new episodes as well as the 59 that have already aired. Additionally, Jerry will play a role in developing both scripted and unscripted programming with Netflix.

Ted Sarandos, chief content officer for Netflix, commented at the time, “Jerry is known the world over as both a great TV innovator and beloved comic voice. We are incredibly proud to welcome him to the Netflix comedy family.”

Playing his part in the mutual admiration society, Jerry added in a statement, “When I first started thinking about Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, the entire Netflix business model consisted of mailing out DVDs in envelopes. I love that we are now joining together, both at very different points. I am also very excited to be working with Ted Sarandos at Netflix, a guy and a place that not only have the same enthusiasm for the art of stand-up comedy as I do, but the most amazing technology platform to deliver it in a way that has never existed before. I am really quite charged up to be moving there.” Jerry Before Seinfeld will be available for streaming on Netflix beginning Monday, Sept. 19.
