After noting that Mila, 11, “really wants” to cohost the morning show with her mother following Hoda Kotb’s exit, Jenna, 43, revealed to E! News that she “said something very controversial” that led to Henry’s stance.
“So, therefore, my husband gave her a lifetime ban,” she continued. “We’ll see if that’s lifted maybe for bring your kids to work day. But she hasn’t been always the most supportive, let’s just say that.”
Jenna then admitted that Mila is her only child that has expressed interest in taking on the gig. “They’re not jumping, but I may push them like I’ve done my whole life,” she jokingly said.
In addition to Mila, Jenna and Henry, 46, share kids Poppy, 9, and Hal, 5.
While Jenna isn’t sure who is going to permanently fill Hoda’s spot on Today With Hoda & Jenna, she did reveal the advice that her former coworker gave her before her final episode of January 10.
“This is such good parenting advice: Our kids don’t just listen to what we say, we watch them,” Jenna said while reflecting on working with Hoda, 60, over the years. “And I’ve gotten to watch her. She’s the best. She’s the most empathetic. She taught me how to really listen, how to be present with our guest. But she also is so fun. Fun is underrated, and I think that’s our mantra. We’re going to have a lot of fun. And I think people want that.”
Before Hoda’s permanent replacement is announced for Today With Hoda & Jenna, the former first daughter will cohost the segment alongside celebrity guests, including Eva Longoria and Scarlett Johansson.
“Scarlett Johansson is the best,” Jenna said about her temporary cohost. “All of the women that have said yes are like dream guests. So the fact that they’re willing to like host, which is work, means so much to me, especially when the world is hard. They’re leaving their homes to come to be with us. We do not take that lightly. And we’re so excited.”

Fans previously watched Jenna and Hoda share a sweet moment during the January 10 episode, in which the mother of three thanked the Oklahoma native for teaching her “how to say goodbye with grace.”
“Five years …. more than 1500 shows … 90,000 hours … 9,000 commercial breaks filled with Shaboozey, Beyoncé and constant laughter and soul affirming conversations. From Vegas to NOLA (three times!) from Austin to Quebec … to our home — this home Studio 1A which will always be ours. Mine and yours,” Jenna said.
After reflecting on all of the life changes they experienced together on and off the show, she praised Hoda for her time on Today.
“This isn’t just any Hodini … driving off with my purse still in your car – you have been able to sit in the glow of the goodbye! Viewers have traveled miles from other states to declare their love on poster boards, every single guest has gotten to share their ‘Hoda story’ – how you have made them feel seen, and heard,” Jenna said. “Thank you Hoda for everything you have taught me, everything you’ve given me: all the hugs, all the heart, all the laughs, all the love.”
