Jenna Bush Hager Gushes It ‘Would Be Great’ to Take Over Kathie Lee Gifford’s ‘Today’ Gig After She Exits the Show
Though NBC has yet to officially announce who will take over Kathie Lee Gifford‘s Today show gig after she leaves the morning program this spring, Jenna Bush Hager has revealed she’d love to take the job! “It would mean … it would be great,” the 37-year-old former first daughter gushed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Friday, January 25.
“I feel like I have the best job. I get to sit next to these incredible humans, I get to travel the world and meet incredible people who are doing extraordinary things and so we’ll see. We’ll see,” Jenna continued, referring to her Today costars Hoda Kotb and Sheinelle Jones.
Despite Hoda, 54, confirming that there’s “no news to break” about who Kathie Lee’s replacement will be, she did praise Jenna’s work on Today and hinted that she could take KLG’s seat after she leaves. “Jenna has been filling in for the past month and she’s been awesome and extraordinary and she fits. We’re like one big family and I think we all feel that,” Hoda said.
This isn’t the first time that Jenna’s name has been mentioned as a possible cohost replacement for Kathie Lee, 65. In early December, a source told Page Six, “Jenna’s my hot bet to join Hoda.”
According to another recent report from Life & Style, NBC execs are looking to “hire from within” once Kathie Lee leaves. “They don’t want to make another mistake like Megyn Kelly again. Kathie Lee likes Jenna, but producers are looking for someone who can laugh and joke with Hoda. Both Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer’s names have been thrown into the mix,” a source revealed.
Kathie Lee previously announced on December 11 that she’ll be leaving Today after 11 years on the show this April. “It’s an exciting time for me and I’m thrilled about the projects coming up, but it’s also hard is because the reason I stayed longer than a year is because I love everybody here. I have been in this business 120 years and never worked with a more beautiful group of people who just give, give, give every day, four hours of live television five days a week,” she said at the time.
