Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb admitted that they were a little disappointed with some of the 2025 Golden Globes nominations.

“I want to preface our next topic by saying we’re angry and it’s on our jangly, what happened,” Hoda, 60, said during the Monday, December 9 episode of Today With Hoda & Jenna, to which Jenna, 43, replied, “Like the jangle has already gone, the jangly is gone!”

Hoda went on to say, “The Golden Globe Awards were announced this morning and we were very happy for many things.”

Cynthia Erivo, Wicked, Ariana Grande, Wicked, Best Actress, Supporting Actress, Wicked was nominated for Best Motion Picture, so it’s all great except one huge gap,” Hoda and Jenna said together.

“And this is what is on our jangly, the bad news that we’re very disappointed about is Jon Chu, who is the director of Wicked, and the amount of work he had to do to make that so incredible was not nominated,” Jenna added.

“OK, sorry Jon, we don’t know what happened there,” Hoda remarked, with Jenna chiming in, saying, “In fact, if we could call somebody at the Golden Globes, but we can’t because we don’t know anybody, but we would be calling them right now!”

Hoda said that Wicked “was a visual masterpiece.” Jenna said that it reminded a lot of people of old Hollywood films with a lot of singing and dancing.

Jenna praised Jon, 45, and said that he made the movie “colorful” and “beautiful”

“Because that was such a tricky movie to pull off, because to make it something that was so incredible, it took the best director,” Hoda said.

“We need to take whoever decided that and have them watch Cats over and over again just to show them how hard it is to direct a masterpiece!” Jenna said.

But even though Hoda and Jenna are disgruntled about Jon being snubbed by the Golden Globes, they are optimistic he will get his flowers soon. “He will get an Oscar nomination for sure,” she said, adding that it’s “a given” that he will be recognized by the Academy.

The nominees for Best Director of a Motion Picture at the 2025 Golden Globes include Jacques Audiard for Emilia Pérez, Sean Baker for Anora, Edward Berger for Conclave, Brady Corbet for The Brutalist, Coralie Fargeat for The Substance and Payal Kapadia for All We Imagine as Light.

There were a couple of other big snubs for Golden Globe nominations this year, including Denis Villeneuve for directing Dune: Part Two. He previously received a nomination for the first part of the film franchise in 2022.

Josh Brolin, who starred in Dune: Part Two said that if Denis, 57, does not get nominated for an Oscar for directing the film, he would quit show business.

“If he doesn’t get nominated this year, I’ll quit acting,” Josh, 56, told Variety on November 21. “It was a better movie than the first one. When I watched it, it felt like my brain was broken open. It’s masterful, and Denis is one of our master filmmakers. If the Academy Awards have any meaning whatsoever, they’ll recognize him.”
