New mom Janet Jackson couldn’t be happier today after welcoming her first baby, son Eissa, in January 2017 when she was 50 years old — but, in a new interview, the singer revealed people in her life weren’t sure she’d ever become a mother. “Every doctor told me it wasn’t possible. But I’ve got a beautiful, healthy son. He’ll be 10 months old,” she recently told the [Northwest Indiana Times](https://www.nwitimes.com/entertainment/music/gary-homecoming-janet-and-randy-jackson-visit-childhood-home-roosevelt/article99bc864f-1a44-5a5a-896a-a2c8bca56793.html)_.

Janet, 51, and her now-estranged husband, Wissam Al Mana, 42, previously welcomed Eissa on Tuesday, Jan. 3. “Janet Jackson and husband Wissam Al Mana are thrilled to welcome their new son Eissa Al Mana into the world. Janet had a stress-free healthy delivery and is resting comfortably,” the star’s rep said in a statement at the time.

Just three months after Janet gave birth, the “Rhythm Nation” songstress and her Qatari business magnate spouse revealed their separation following nearly five years of marriage. “Sadly, Janet and Wissam have decided that it wasn’t working and to go their separate ways. They’re both busy people but determined to be good parents, even if they’re apart. It’s amicable and Eissa will stay with his mother, who is basing herself in London,” a source said.

Since then, Janet has been loving new motherhood and recently embarked on her latest concert tour. “Janet is so wonderful. She is so happy. [Eissa is the] cutest baby in the whole history of babies,” Janet’s longtime producer, Jimmy Jam, gushed in June. Earlier this year, Life & Style revealed that Janet has brought baby Eissa on tour with her and the little boy has a “full-time staff devoted to his care” including a “baby nurse, nanny, and bodyguard.”

Despite her third marriage sadly coming to an end, Janet — who is now fighting with Wissam for full custody of Eissa — has assured her fans that she’s doing well. “I thank god for [my son], you guys, he’s so healthy, so beautiful, so sweet, so loving, such a happy baby,” she said in a cute Instagram video.
