It’s been 21 years since Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith tied the knot, but she has some regrets about their marriage today. During the premiere episode of her new Facebook talk show Red Table Talk, Jada sat down with Will’s ex-wife, Sheree Zampino, whom Will was still married to when she began dating him in the early ’90s.

“Because I did not understand marriage, I did not understand divorce, I probably should have fell back,” Jada confessed to Sheree, who shared three-year-old son Trey Smith with Will at the time. “You think?” Sheree joked back.

However, things got emotional when the duo realized how far they’ve come as a blended family (Jada and Will are also parents to son Jade, 19, and daughter Willow, 17). Sheree told Jada a sweet story of when Trey gushed about his stepmom to her.

“So Trey comes home and I said, ‘How did you like Miss Jada?’ He said, ‘I really liked her, Mommy,'” Sheree shared. Jada responded “Oh my God” and started to cry. This made Jada tear up as well. “Thank you for loving my baby,” she gushed.

Jada previously opened up about her decision to have her husband’s ex on the show, which she hosts with Willow. “I thought it was important to have that conversation because she was my entry point to motherhood. I was co-mothering with her. At that particular time, before [having a blended family] was popular, before it was even an idea, we were trying to create something that we had never experienced,” she said.

Jada added, “We came from broken homes. We didn’t have a blueprint. We just had an idea. This is what we think we want. This is what we want to try to do for Trey.”

Kudos to Jada and Sheree for making what could have been a really awkward moment an inspirational one.
