“In BOSTON BLUE, a universe expansion of the long-running top drama BLUE BLOODS, Wahlberg will reprise his role as NYPD officer Danny Reagan as he takes a position with Boston PD,” the February 18, 2025, press release reads. “Once in Boston, he is paired with detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.”

In addition to starring in the offshoot, Donnie reigns as the show’s executive producer alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed.

“It’s been discussed. I’m sure it’s been discussed in multiple formats and multiple areas with multiple people,” the New Kids on the Block alum told Closer in December 2024. “But you know whatever’s going to happen with the spinoff is going to have to be done thoughtfully and carefully. That’s quite a legacy to live up to after Blue Bloods. And if the show doesn’t carry on some of those magical elements of Blue Bloods, then I think it would be a disservice to the show. So, it’s really just it’s being talked about.”

Cast Reactions to the Cancellation of ‘Blue Bloods’ Proved It Came As a Surprise

CBS announced in May 2024 that Blue Bloods season 14 would debut the series finale that December.

Meanwhile, Blue Bloods main star Tom Selleck shared how “frustrated” he was to learn that the series was cut.

“If you were to say to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot you got, and it is going to guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would be almost impossible to believe,” Tom told TV Insider in October 2024. “My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go.”
