Though his beloved Amazon Prime Video character, Jack Reacher, has had his fair share of romances on screen over the course of the show’s three seasons, Alan is married in real life.

The 6-foot-3 star wed Catherine Ritchson in 2006, and they have been happily together ever since. The couple met in a rather unexpected way – at a dance class when they were teens!

“I’ll never forget seeing him for the first time in the [dance] studio. I turned to my friend Miriam, and I said, ‘Who is that?’“ Catherine recalled on “The Road to Wisdom” podcast in September 2023. “He, at some point, came up to me and we just got chatting.”

Though they did break up during the early years of their romance, they ended up getting back together.

“I’ve made him pay for it ever since,” Catherine said of their brief split. “He still justifies it. He’s like, ‘You lived 30 minutes away, I couldn’t afford gas.’”

Alan also reflected on meeting his spouse during an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in February 2025.

“I don’t know why she sticks around, dude. She deserves better,” the Smallville alum joked before launching into the story of how he met Catherine in high school.

“We met in ballet. I was in it for her and out as soon as we had it in the bag,” he quipped. “No, I was pursuing a musical theater degree in high school so I was dual enrolling in college. And part of the prerequisite for the musical theater program was that I take dance classes. So I was in ballet because of the dance classes. It was a thing.”

Host Stephen Colbert asked Alan if he remembered any of the proper ballet positions and he happily stood up and demonstrated a few of them. He did so with a huge smile on his face and the audience applauded before he sat back down in the chair.

Fans were buzzing over Alan’s love for his wife after the appearance and how ballet connected them.

“I love the way he speaks of his wife with such love,” one person commented on a clip from the show posted on Instagram.

“He is stunning I love him more now that he met his wife in ballet.. something similar to similar to Patrick swayze.. both wonderful in their craft,” another wrote.

Alan and Catherine have three children together, sons Calem, Edan, and Amory. In an April 2024 YouTube video, Alan shared his unique philosophy on parenting and marriage.
