No Way!Idris Elba Reveals Prince Harry Asked Him to DJ His Royal Wedding to Meghan Markle
Planning a wedding can be one of the most stressful things to arrange. But when it came to specific details regarding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s May 2018 royal wedding, there was one minor aspect that the Duke of Sussex didn’t have to think twice about.
While making an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday, February 26, Idris Elba revealed to Ellen DeGeneres that Harry, 34, asked him if he would come deejay at the reception following his nuptials to Meghan, 37. “So Harry and I, we’ve hung out a couple of times, through his dad,” the 46-year-old Luther star explained to the TV host. “His dad’s charity, the Prince’s Trust, helped me out as a young actor. So I do a lot of work with them, Harry and [Prince] William … And Harry came to a couple of parties that I deejayed.”
Funny enough, the duke was super casual about asking his famous friend to come spin records at the highly anticipated and publicized ceremony. “He was like, ‘Hey man, what are you doing on the date?'” Idris, who goes by the stage name DJ Big Driis, recalled to Ellen, 61. “And I was like, ‘Oh, nothing.’ He goes, ‘Hmm, would you DJ at my wedding?'”
At first, Idris admitted that he wasn’t sure how serious Prince William‘s brother was about the invitation. “I was like, ‘Is this a joke? Are you joking?'” The Wire alum said while laughing. However, the handsome hunk dished to Ellen that not only did he attend the star-studded ceremony at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19 of last year, but he even deejayed the reception as Harry had asked — talk about a bucket list moment!
Although Idris didn’t dish any special music requests the couple may have had, he did say that deejaying for Meg and Harry was an amazing experience. Who knows, it may have led to his gig at this year’s Coachella!
