The high fashion world is mourning the loss of iconic designer Oscar de la Renta this evening. The internationally known and award-winning couturier passed away at age 82 after a long battle with cancer.

Oscar, who had most recently designed George Clooney‘s bride Amal Alamuddin‘s one-of-a-kind wedding gown, had been battling cancer since 2006.

The designer was known for creating romantic and ultra-glamorous clothing for countless Hollywood women and—perhaps most notably—many First Ladies, including Betty Ford, Jackie Kennedy, Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama.

Mrs. Obama recently donned one of his gowns at a White House event for fashion students.

The designer, who was born in the Dominican Republic in July of 1932, showcased his Spring 2015 collection on the runway at New York Fashion Week this September.

Other A-List stars including Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Garner were also fans of his work.

He is survived by his second wife, Annette Engelhard, his son Moises and his step-children from both of his marriages.

Our hearts go out to Oscar’s family and loved ones during this sad time.
