Sounding off! Hugh Grant couldn’t help but divulge his opinion on the recent royal family drama while stopping by Andy Cohen‘s SiriusXM show “Radio Andy.” The beloved British actor revealed Duchess Meghan (née Markle) and Prince Harry have all of his support as he defended the couple following their decision to step back from royal duties.

“I’m rather on Harry’s side, I have to say,” the 59-year-old hunk shared with Andy, 51, as they began chatting about the bombshell news on Monday, January 13. “The tabloid press effectively murdered his mother [Princess Diana], now they’re tearing his wife to pieces.”

As fans remember, Harry, 35, opened up to ITV News in October 2019 about his mother’s tragic 1997 death. The red-haired royal revealed how much it bothered him to see Meghan, 38, dragged through the mud like mom Diana before her death over two decades ago. At the time, the late Princess of Wales was killed in a car accident while being chased by paparazzi.

“I think being part of this family, in this role and this job, every single time I see a camera, every single time I hear a click, every single time I see a flash, it takes me straight back,” the beloved prince candidly shared with the outlet at the time. “So in that respect, it’s the worst reminder of her life as opposed to the best.”

Considering Hugh has had his own share of issues with the press in the past, he couldn’t have jumped any quicker at the chance to defend the Duke of Sussex and his wife. “I think, as a man, it’s [Harry’s] job to protect his family, so I’m with him,” the Notting Hill actor explained to Andy.

Hugh’s supportive message for the royal couple — who tied the knot in May 2018 and welcomed son Archie, 8 months, in May 2019 — comes the same day Queen Elizabeth held a meeting with her fellow royal family members to discuss Harry and Meghan’s future in the iconic family. Following the highly anticipated summit, the royal monarch, 93, shared a statement in support of her grandson’s decision.

“Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family,” she announced. “My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”

Although many are speculating about the real reasons why Meghan and Harry want to remove themselves as senior members of the royal family, a source close to the pair says it’s because “Archie is their No. 1 priority.”

Moving to Canada is definitely an option for Harry and Meghan,” the royal insider recently shared with Closer. “They’ve been considering it for a while and loved the time they spent in Vancouver over the holidays!”

The source added, “They’d also be able to give Archie a more normal upbringing in Canada, away from the media circus in London, which is a priority for the royal couple.”
