The first season of House of Cards first hit Netflix in 2013 — and fans have been obsessed with Francis and Claire Underwood ever since! However, many fans want to know how much the cast makes.
Back in 2014, it was reported by Business Insider that Kevin Spacey was making $500,000 per episode, which put him at a salary of $6.5 million. At that time, insiders revealed that he could eventually be bumped up to $1 million per episode!
Those figures left his co-star Claire Danes very unhappy. In 2015, Forbes claimed the blonde-haired actress was one of the highest-paid TV actresses in the industry, making $420,000 per episode, which put her at a salary of $5.5 million.
As you can see, that's $80,000 less per episode than Kevin! And Robin wouldn't let it fly. In a previous interview, Claire opened up about how she wanted equal pay.
"I was like, ‘I want to be paid the same as Kevin,’" she said in May 2016. "It was a perfect paradigm. There are very few films or TV shows where the male, the patriarch, and the matriarch are equal. And they are in House of Cards."
"I was looking at statistics and Claire Underwood’s character was more popular than [Frank’s] for a period of time. So I capitalized on that moment. I was like, ‘You better pay me or I’m going to go public,’" Robin, 51, added. "And they did."
However, in a recent interview with Rhapsody, Claire claims she never received that pay bump. "I don't think I'm getting paid the same amount [as Kevin]," she said. "They told me I was getting a raise. But … I don't think so."
"It's such a male-dominant workforce still," she continued. "There's a conditioning. And changing the condition of men is what needs to happen."
In 2016, Robin didn't make the Forbes list of highest paid TV actresses. However, Kevin, 57, was listed as the number 12 highest paid TV actor with a salary of $10.5 million. Something's fishy!
