Hoda Kotb's Family — A Guide to Her Wonderful Loved Ones

Beloved news anchor Hoda Kotb has been blessed in so many ways. She’s a mom to kids Hope Catherine and Haley Joy and she has an amazing support system at home. When the Today costar and her fiancé, Joel Schiffman, are too busy to look after the children, they can always rely on Hoda’s mom, Sameha Kotb.

“She is probably among the strongest most optimistic people I’ve ever met, because she believes anything is possible,” Hoda once said on Today about her supportive mother. “And when she looks at me and says, ‘You can do it,’ I honestly believe I can. If I said to her at 51 years old, ‘You know what, Mom, I’m thinking about being a mountain climber, or maybe I’ll go to the moon,’ she’ll be like, ‘Yes, of course! Are there classes?’”

Sameha is not the only great person in Hoda’s life. She also adores her man, who has stood by her side through thick and thin. In January 2020, the couple made their love official when Joel asked Hoda to be his wife. “He goes, ‘I’d like to say something.’ It was just the two of us, and he started talking and I looked at him thinking, Oh my god, this is going somewhere,'” the TV personality recalled about Joel’s romantic beach proposal.

“He literally kicked the seat out from under him and dropped down on one knee,” she continued. “I didn’t know I could be shocked, and I didn’t know I could love him more … but I did … in that moment.”

Since the pair became engaged, Hoda’s been feeling like everything is right with the world. The NBC star once told Ellen DeGeneres she feels like she has “clarity” because of her beautiful family at home. When she comes home from a long day of work, Haley would jump into her arms and Hope would smile at her.

“I feel like my life finally makes sense,” Hoda gushed, and she wouldn’t want to have it any other way.

Sameha Kotb — Mom

Hoda’s father, unfortunately, died in 1986 at the age of 51, but Sameha has been around to take care of her children and support them. One thing the journalist will always remember is how supportive her mom was to her while growing up.

“If I looked up at every sporting event, my mom was sitting there,” Hoda said on Today. “Every crummy basketball game, every JV whatever, every time I rode the bench — there she was. She was sitting there, saying, ‘That was an amazing shot! I know you were only in it the last minute, but boy, that it was amazing.”

Joel Schiffman — Fiancé

Joel, who has a Master’s Degree from the University of Pennsylvania, first started dating Hoda in 2013 after she spoke at an event for Wall Street professionals. “They asked me to sign some books and one guy is like, ‘Can you sign it to my grandma?’ And this guy walks up and he’s like, ‘I’ll take a book,’” Hoda explained during a segment on the morning talk show in April 2014.

“And I was like, ‘Who do you want me to write it to — your girlfriend, your wife, your aunt?’ And he goes, ‘Write it to me,’” Hoda recalled. What a beautiful love story!

Haley Joy Kotb — Daughter

Haley has become quite the little star herself. She got so excited when her parents told her she was going to be a big sister.

“Haley has play dates with other children, children who have siblings, so it’s something she’s wondered about. So when [Hoda] and Joel told Haley she too was going to have a sibling, she absolutely loved the notion!” a friend close to the family previously told Closer Weekly.

Hope Catherine Kotb — Daughter

The newest member of the Kotb family is little Hope. And the meaning behind her name is quite special. “Catherine is my best friend’s daughter’s name and it just so happens that this weekend when [Hope] was born, when we got her, it was also John’s birthday — my best friend’s husband who passed,” Hoda previously told Savannah and Jenna Bush Hager on Today. “So it was a very emotional time for all of us and I said to Catherine, ‘you’re the strongest kid I know.’”
