It’s no surprise that Hilaria Baldwin is a superstar mama. Between raising four kids under the age of 5, running her popular podcast Mom Brain with Daphne Oz and maintaining her romantic relationship with her husband, Alec Baldwin, the mom-of-four sometimes feels like her head isn’t screwed on straight.
In order to stay on track, the 35-year-old has specific tips and tricks that she swears by to keep her house tidy and organized. “We’ve designated a playroom and it has a Pottery Barn shelving unit,” Hilaria recently dished of her tidying up techniques to Architectural Digest. “Especially if I’m pregnant and go through my crazy nesting-organization thing, I’ll put all the phones in one and all the cars in another basket and then you realize that they’re just going to get messed up. So, I think that a lot of it is just realizing we can have order in the house, by saying there’s a designated place where we go to play.”
Trying to wrangle her four kids, Carmen Gabriela, 5, Rafael Thomas, 3, Leonardo Ángel Charles, 2, and Romeo Alejandro David, 9 months, into one playroom isn’t always realistic. Therefore, the fitness guru revealed that her secret to a happy household is childproofing. “I am a big believer in not stressing the kids out. So, all the furniture that we have is [covered with] very washable fabrics, which is just really relaxing because, you know what? Your kids are going to color on your couch and they are going to spill something and I don’t want it to be this big stressful, end-of-the-world [thing].”
The brunette beauty also admitted that she keeps her kids in mind when it comes to decorating her home. “I try not to do sharp corners. I have an ottoman that’s made out of fabric rather than a coffee table because that’s the number one thing for kids to get cut up on. I mean, my kids are upside down and climbing all over the furniture and stuff like that. And as long as they are aware of what they’re doing, I let them do it.”
Funny enough, when she was younger, Hilaria never pictured her life to be the way it is today. “When I was growing up, I didn’t think I wasn’t going to become a mom, but having a big family wasn’t necessarily something that I was so focused on,” she recently admitted to Parents in an interview. “But I met [Alec] when I had just turned 27, and then, I was pregnant by the time I was 28.”
However, it all changed once she welcomed her first-born Carmen. “At that time, I was like, ‘Oh, I’m going to just start with one,’ and I was worried,” the Instagram star recalled before she had any kids. “I didn’t know if I was going to like it. But that changed as soon as I gave birth the first time. I had just delivered Carmen, and my feet were in the stirrups, I had her on my chest, and I said to Alec, ‘Oh, my God. I want to do it again.'” We don’t know how Hilaria does it, but we’re so happy she does!
