If you want a body like Halle Berry‘s, it’s going to take some hard work! In an exclusive new interview with Closer Weekly, the actress’ trainer, Peter Lee Thomas, opened up about how she stays in shape — and Halle’s workout regiment sounds, frankly, super intense.
Peter — who frequently appears in the 51-year-old’s “Fitness Friday” Instagram posts — shared that he never tells Halle what to expect when he meets her for a workout. “There’s an element of surprise — I show up and tell her, ‘Okay, we’re going to do this, this, and this and have at it. What I can tell you is she’s doing a lot of metabolic stuff — jumping in and out of tires, pushups, there’s sprinting involved, throwing medicine balls, working with heavy kettlebells, climbing ropes, hitting the heavy bag,” he explained. “She’s kicking, pushing, and pulling things. There’s a whole arsenal of workouts that she goes through.”

So many of you are asking how I have managed to stay in great shape over the years. Well, part of it is genetics, that’s true. I was a gymnast growing up and that certainly has helped as I have always been very athletic. I have worked with many trainers over the years and learned a lot from each of them. However, now I’d like to introduce you to my favorite trainer and what I call my secret weapon! Peter Lee Thomas! This man has changed my life. Besides being an all around wonderful human, he’s a trainer, martial artist, fellow actor, and nutrition specialist! With his help, I have learned so much about fitness and nutrition and I’m excited to share it with all of you. He’s taught me boxing, self defense, and much more. Not only am I in the best shape of my life, but I can actually defend myself and most importantly… my children! As a woman there is nothing more empowering. When it’s time to travel, Peter makes sure Halle has an on-the-go regimen. “She’s pretty well-versed now in a couple of things that will work for her. Normally, what I’ve done in the past, I would prepare her for her travels like, ‘This is what I want you to work on.’ She’ll do things that don’t require a lot of equipment. There are a billion things you can do in your hotel room to get a quick 10-20 minute workout in,” the fitness buff said.
“Now I’ll write her a program or give her suggestions — or if she’s going somewhere on vacation with beautiful trails to hike, I always say train outside. Use that as your gym and go on a hike. That’s amazing. You don’t physically need to be in a gym — you can work out in nature. It even gives her a little break from all the other stuff we’re doing. Then when she comes back and sees me and we work out together, it’s game time,” he continued. Both Halle and her trainer are also fans of the health company Purium, which Peter highly recommends.
