Halle Berry's Dating History: See a List of All Her Boyfriends

You go, girl! Halle Berry has been a film industry icon for over 30 years — and throughout that time, she’s also established a dating history of very handsome boyfriends. From rumored lover Kevin Costner to ex-husband Olivier Martinez, all her romances have led the Catwoman star to her latest beau, Van Hunt.

Prior to falling in love with the musician, Halle was married three times. She was first hitched to baseball star David Justice from 1992 to 1997. The Monster’s Ball star then tied the knot with singer-songwriter Eric Benét in 2001, but they too split in 2005.

She then famously dated model Gabriel Aubry — with whom she welcomed daughter, Nahla Ariela Aubry — from 2002 until 2010. Halle then said “I do” for a third time in 2013 to French actor Olivier and they welcomed their son, Maceo Robert Martinez, shortly after. However, in 2016, the actress and Olivier got divorced.

During a Q&A event in February 2017, Halle revealed she’s felt “guilty and responsible” for her past failed relationships. “[As] women, we go into marriage thinking it’s going to last forever and that this is our prince on a shiny horse. That’s what fairy tales taught me as a kid … and I’m kind of anti–fairy tales today,” she said. “I have learned to deal with three failed marriages, which has not been easy, especially when there are children involved.”

“When [your relationship] falls apart it feels like a huge failure and a huge disappointment,” Halle added. “I’ve often felt guilty and responsible. I’ve suffered a lot of pain and anguish.”

Through it all, Halle has remained strong. “I’m proud of the woman I am today because I went through a hell of a time becoming her,” she wrote on Instagram in January 2020. And even though she didn’t need a man to get to this point, she’s never felt more compelled to embrace a relationship with Van, whom she’s been dating since summer 2020.

On Valentine’s Day 2020, Halle got candid about her journey to find love, telling her Instagram followers to “never give up” until they find their true partner. “To all the Valentines who may be struggling to get it right … I feel you, but NEVER SETTLE for less than what makes your heart sing!” Halle penned on social media. “No matter what they say or what they call you. No matter how many times you try, it’s always worth it. If you desire love, you will find your match, your equal … your person … even if it takes you until you’re 54!”

Kevin Costner

Halle and Kevin Costner were rumored to have had a fling in 1989. However, like Hollywood Life states, there’s not much to confirm these two truly dated. Despite the speculation, they’ve remained friends after all these years, even working together on the 2006 documentary Boffo! Tinseltown’s Bombs and Blockbusters.

Shemar Moore

The John Wick: Chapter 3 actress dated Shemar Moore following her divorce from David in 1997, but they split one year later in 1998. The Criminal Minds actor reflected on their romance during an interview with BET in 2013, telling the outlet, “I fell hard for Halle. A lot of people now know we dated, but we had to keep it hush-hush at the time because she was fresh off her divorce from David Justice. I’m still grateful for that relationship. I was smitten not just because of who she was, but because we were so similar in so many ways.”

Michael Ealy

Halle and Think Like A Man actor Michael Ealy were an item from 2004 until 2005. Despite parting ways, the two remained on good terms. “After my last relationship [with Michael Ealy] broke up, I was feeling like, well, it wasn’t that I didn’t want to be in a relationship, it’s just that I thought it would be OK to be on my own,” she told InStyle in 2007.

Van Hunt

Halle has been linked to Van Hunt since summer 2020. The Extant actress first hinted she was dating the “Seconds of Pleasure” artist when she posted a pic of their feet while cuddling in a daybed in July 2020. From there, they’ve flaunted their romance on social media and even made their red carpet debut at the 2021 Academy Awards in April.

Since letting herself fall in love with Van, Halle “feels most at peace with who she is as a person and where she is in her life,” a friend exclusively told Closer Weekly in January 2021, noting the film icon feels like everything is finally coming together. “She has two amazing kids, she’s in love and she’s enjoying her work. She’s in the best shape of her life, both emotionally and physically.”
