Sean Malone, an actor best known for his roles in Gone Baby Gone and The Fighter, is sadly dead after a near-drowning accident. He was 54-years-old.

The star passed away from injuries sustained during the drowning incident. He was in a coma for more than a week before the Boston Fire Department’s official Twitter account announced the news of his death on Wednesday, July 29.

“Sean Malone succumbed to his injuries this evening surrounded by his son Sean, parents and siblings at Boston Medical Center,” the message read.

According to The Boston Globe, an off-duty firefighter saw Sean swim out too far in the water at the city’s M Street Beach on Monday, July 20. When the firefighter entered the water to urge him to come ashore, however, he was unable to find the actor.

Later, three teens driving a powerboat were able to help locate Sean, who was found floating unconscious in the water. He was then taken to Boston Medical Center where he remained in critical condition until his passing on Wednesday.

Sean’s acting roles included Wolfie in 2010’s The Fighter, Finn in 2014’s The Forger and Skinny Ray Likanski in 2007’s Gone Baby Gone.
