Poor, George!

George Clooney paid a visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, Feb. 4 where he revealed his marriage proposal to his now-wife, Amal Clooney, was “horrible”!

“[I] said, ‘I couldn’t imagine spending the rest of my life without you,'” the Hail, Caesar! star told host Ellen DeGeneres. “And she kept looking at the ring and she was looking at me and she was like ‘Oh my God.'”

“I’ve got it all set up, timed out and the song is coming and she gets up to go wash the dishes, which she’s never done,” he recalled of the night he popped the question. “And I’m like, ‘What are you doing?’ and she comes back in. And finally I said, ‘Ya know, I blew out the candle,’ and I said, ‘I think the lighter’s in the box behind you.’ And she reaches around and she pulls out the box and I’ve got just the ring sitting in there and she pulls it out and she looks at it and she’s like, ‘It’s a ring’ — like as if somebody had left it there some other time.”

The 54-year-old actor even said the whole proposal lasted nearly a half hour. “And you know, I just said — I’m 52 at the time — ‘I’ve been on my knee now for 28 minutes, so I gotta get an answer out of this because I’m gonna throw a hip out. I might not be able to stand back up,’” he joked in a previous interview with CBS News.

Luckily, the London-based barrister did say “Yes!” and the couple later married in a lavish ceremony in Venice, Italy in September 2014.
