George Clooney Opens Up About Moving to NYC With Wife Amal and Kids Alexander and Ella: ‘They Love It’

George Clooney and his wife, Amal Clooney, made the big move to New York City with their kids. The Academy Award winner opened up about how his family was adjusting to life in the Big Apple amid his new Broadway role.

George, 63, appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert earlier this week to chat about his upcoming Broadway debut in Good Night, and Good Luck, which was adapted from the 2005 movie he starred in. Ahead of his first performance on March 12, George, Amal, 47, and their 7-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander, have been exploring NYC as its where they will be living for the next six months.

“They love New York! Amal went to NYU, so she’s been here many times,” the dad of two said about his wife and kids.

The Wolfs actor joked that the kids “did not go to NYU. They’re smart kids but not that [smart].”

George said that he and his family are “having a really fun time” in NYC so far.

“I mean, come on, how do you not love this, it’s New York City,” he said during the late-night talk show appearance. “They love being here.”

“Actually, a play is kind of a good schedule because, you know, you’re working at night, you get to see the kids during the day, so it’s OK,” he continued.

Prior to packing up and moving to NYC with his family, George opened up about what led him to take the role and his hopes for the future.

“That’s going to be six months of my life in New York. But again, it’s like we’re talking about time allotment. I won’t do another thing,” the Gravity actor told GQ in August 2024. “I’m going to give myself time with my kids. I really enjoy driving them to school, and my wife and I are having a really wonderful time. So I don’t want to lose all of that.”

“But this is an opportunity to do something that I have never done before. I’ve never been on Broadway,” he added. “So we’re still trying to do things and new things and try things, but we’re also saying, ‘Well, let’s also remember that we want to see our life in a kind of nice way too.’ A little of both. Everything in moderation, including moderation.”

George and Amal own homes all over the world, with their most famous estate being the one in Laglio, on Lake Como, in Italy, which has become a celebrity hub over the years and where the Clooney family spends a lot of their time.

George will be performing on stage in Broadway’s Good Night, and Good Luck until June 8.

“Step back into the 1950s and experience Good Night, and Good Luck on Broadway. A riveting play about midcentury American television news, Good Night, and Good Luck follows broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow (Clooney) and Senator Joseph McCarthy, who led the political witch hunt known as the Red Scare,” a synopsis of the play says.

After the show was announced, George spoke out in a statement about the opportunity.

“I am honored, after all these years, to be coming back to the stage and especially, to Broadway, the art form and the venue that every actor aspires to,” he said.
