Paula Abdul Reveals If She’d Ever Return as a Judge on the ‘American Idol’ Reboot!

Straight up, now tell us — will Paula Abdul return as a judge for the ABC reboot of American Idol?

The 54-year-old stopped by for a chat with the Today show co-host Hoda Kotb and dished about her latest tour with New Kids on the Block and Boyz II Men. But — of course — Hoda couldn’t let her leave without letting her weigh in on the news that ABC is planning to reboot the singing competition series, American Idol.

“I’m excited for their reboot, and I think that ABC is a wonderful network for it as well,” Paula told Hoda. “I think it’s perfect.”

Last week, ABC revealed that it would revive the beloved series just less than two years after it went off the air. Paula was part of the original judges’ trio — along with Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson — and they starred on the show for 15 seasons before FOX decided it was time to move on.

But even though Paula was one of the original judges, she has a very clear vision for the show’s reboot — and it doesn’t include her or her former co-stars.

“I had an incredible time on that show, and am blessed to have been part of it from the beginning but I think that they need to do a whole reboot,” Paula explained.

So far, ABC has yet to confirm which three stars will replace the former judges — but according to Us Weekly, producers would love to fill the judges’ table with faces that would be familiar to the franchise’s viewers — like fan-favorite former contestants and winners. Chris Daughtry, who made it to fourth places on Season 5, is reportedly already on board.

“They wanted a panel of all ex contestants,” a source revealed. “Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson were all on their wish list."
