Rest in peace. On Tuesday, February 12, Tim McGraw sadly confirmed via an emotional Instagram post that Faith Hill‘s father, Ted Perry, sadly passed away last week at 88 years old.

“He was the sweetest, kindest most gentle man I’ve ever known,” Tim, 51, captioned a tribute video to his late father-in-law on the social media outlet. “No man in my life has ever made such an impact on me as to how to be a human, a father and a friend. I’ll never, in 10 lifetimes, be able to live up to his example, but man, he has set a mark that all of us should strive for. His legacy will live on through the three beautiful souls he raised, Faith and her brothers, Steve and Wesley … I’m sure a day will not pass for the rest of my life, that he will not show up in my thoughts. We all love you, G Pa.” See Tim’s sweet tribute to Faith’s dad below.

Tim’s video also included touching home videos of Faith with her father and, at one point, the 51-year-old singer said, “Anyone who has ever met my dad will tell you that he is one of the greatest human beings on the planet. He is so innocent.”

During a previous appearance on the talk show Pickler & Ben, Faith also gushed about her dad and recalled all of the good times that they shared. “My sweet dad is 88 years old now, and he’s the salt of the earth kind of man,” she said at the time. “We’ve always made each other laugh so hard over the silliest things — the kind of laughter that you have in school or church that always gets you in trouble.”

According to Legacy.com, Ted died on Tuesday, February 5 at the Williamson Medical Center in Franklin, Tennessee. Faith also lost her mom, Edna Perry, in 2016 and, at the time, the country star posted a sweet message about her mom’s passing on Instagram. “As you may have heard, my mom passed away on Sunday and was laid to rest this morning. While this is a difficult time for our family, we rejoice in knowing that she is in Heaven and no longer suffering. Thank you all for the kind words and prayers,” she wrote.

Our thoughts are with Faith, Tim and their family during this difficult time.
