Two well-respected music icons, Billy Ray Cyrus and Wayne Newton, may be TV’s newest dynamic duo!

“We became instant friends at the American Music Awards,” Wayne, 71, reveals in the new issue of Closer.

They may be an unlikely pair, but Wayne explains he and Billy Ray, 52, hit it off so well that he asked the country singer to co-star in a pilot he’s working on called "The King Is Alive."

“I went crazy for it. It’s very well-written,” gushes Wayne, who will play Billy’s uncle in the show — “a drama and a comedy,” he explains to Closer — about a fallen star turned preacher.

“Billy’s such a creative talent; he is one of those people you just want to hang around,” Wayne adds.
