Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling‘s daughter turned one-year-old over the weekend — and according to Us Weekly, the proud parents celebrated with a small party attended by friends and family!

“It was a quiet and casual party, not the typical celebrity 1st birthday blowout with vendors and other celebrity guests,” a source told the magazine. “It looked like it was just their simple style and more about family and close friends coming together to celebrate Esmeralda.”

“Some people brought wrapped gifts, including clothes and toys,” the eyewitness added. “One guest arrived carrying a rocking horse and another had colorful plastic balls to fill a ball pit.”
Ryan, 34, and Eva, 41, first began dating in September 2011 and welcomed their daughter on Sept. 12, 2014. In a recent interview, the actress dished about her “raucous” family’s visits to see baby Esmeralda.

“When my mom and sisters visit, they take over the house. They take my baby! They start cleaning everything! They sound like a bunch of hyenas, yelling in Spanish, English, Spanglish,” she said. “They sing [Esmeralda] all these Cuban nursery songs that I forgot my mom used to sing to me. They’re like a raucous crew… It’s incredible. I really appreciate my family, now more than ever. I’m so happy that my little girl gets to grow up with this.”
