When Eva Mendes brought her two daughters, Esmeralda Gosling, 4, and Amada Gosling, 2, to the set of their dad Ryan Gosling‘s newest film First Manin which the actor portrays Neil Armstrong — the adorable tots thought that their dad was actually a real astronaut!

“They loved it! And they now think Poppy’s an astronaut. We haven’t corrected them yet,” Eva, 44, recently told Entertainment Tonight during a new interview.

The Hitch actress then explained that her kids see her in a different light than their dad, even though she has also starred in many movies. “I’m just Mom to them, and they never see me get ready for anything,” Eva revealed. “It’s very important for me for them to see me as just Mom, and I’m just, you know, a messy mom. When I go out with them, I really don’t put an emphasis on how I look — not yet.”

When Eva and Ryan’s kids get older, they’ll probably understand their parents’ careers a lot more, but for now, Eva said she just enjoys spending quality time with her young daughters. “What people don’t know about me is that I love being home,” Eva said in a pervious interview with Shape. “Instead of hitting the red carpet, I’d rather be with our girls.”

Ryan, 37, certainly doesn’t let Eva’s hard work at home go unnoticed. When he won the Best Actor award at the 2017 Golden Globes for his performance in La La Land, he gave his longtime love a sweet shout-out onstage.

“While I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer,” he said. “If she hadn’t taken all that on so that I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me today. So, sweetheart, thank you.”
