Engelbert Humperdinck is still going strong at 88 and is always on tour because he loves the fans. He intends to keep on entertaining until he drops, a source exclusively tells Closer.

“He’s got boundless energy and friends are impressed by his incredible work ethic, especially at his age. He seems pretty content in his own company, but nothing pleases him more than performing for his fans, of which there are millions, and feeling their love,” the insider says.

The source adds that the death of Engelbert’s wife, Patricia Healey, in February 2021 “was a tragedy,” but the British singer “has good friends to lean on and more spirit and drive than people half his age.”

“And he takes good care of the big hair and sideburns, which are his trademark next to his sentimental ballads and love anthems,” the insider concludes.

Engelbert has shown no signs of slowing down and has tour dates planned for January and April 2025 in California, Nevada, Illinois and Michigan.

The “Last Waltz” singer revealed to The Daily Mail in May 2023 that touring has helped him through grieving the loss of his wife, who died at 85 years old due to complications related to COVID-19. Engelbert and Patricia had been married for 56 years.

“I’ll be honest with you, I’m lonely,” he told the outlet. “The only thing I want to do is get back on the road and sing. I want to work as much as I possibly can because I love getting the love from my fans. It gives me the will to live.”

Engelbert continued, “After losing Patricia, I’ve felt so vulnerable and raw. Your whole thinking changes, your heart changes, your whole world changes. You read lyrics differently. Everything becomes more vivid in your mind and you can portray them in a more sensitive way. So in the show, I dedicate a song called ‘Everywhere I Go’ to her that I wrote about 30 years ago, saying I didn’t realize a lyric could be so poignant at this point in my life. Although I wrote it so long ago, I’ve put it back in my show because I’ve dedicated it to my darling, and people love it.”

Addressing if he’ll cut back on shows anytime soon, Engelbert explained, “When I walk on stage even now, the reaction I get is amazing – they still scream. I’ve also noticed that younger people have started to discover who Engelbert Humperdinck is, so I see a lot of new faces in the front row. I’ll never retire. I just want to keep doing what I do because I love show business.”

Engelbert’s 2023 album, All About Love, featured his takes on some of the most famous love songs, including a cover of Barry White’s “You’re The First, The Last, My Everything.” The pop star teased exclusively to Closer back in March that he has more music up his sleeve for 2025.

“Next year, I will step out of my comfort zone and do something a little bit different. It’s a rather unusual concept album,” he revealed. “Hopefully, people will enjoy this new music. I am very excited about it.”
