Ellen DeGeneres Defends Her Marriage to Portia de Rossi: ‘I’m Tired of the Lies’

Despite a barrage of nasty tabloid rumors claiming Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi’s marriage is headed for a nasty $220 million divorce, the talk show host has grown increasingly vocal that she and her wife have never been more committed to each other.

“It’s so ridiculous to me,” Ellen scoffs about claims that her drinking and controlling personality have Portia on the verge of leaving her.

“There’s not one ounce of truth to any of it,” she adds. “I’m very happily married. In fact, the only thing we ever argue about is who loves who more.”

And in that battle, a close friend of the stars tells Closer, Ellen and Portia can both claim victory. “They have their ups and downs like any couple who have been together so long, but they never take each other for granted,” the friend shares.

Any personality differences only makes their union stronger. “Ellen says that Portia is the Yin to her Yang," one friend reveals. "Portia's soft, loving and sexy, while it's hard for Ellen to find her softer side. She hates to dress in anything other than pants!"

That's not to say, though, that Portia is never the one wearing the pants in the relationship. "Portia’s a rock," another friend of the couple insists.

"Ellen’s very sober and solid, but Portia offers her emotional stability. And when I say they don't really fight, I mean it! They’re so nicely suited for one another. Ellen needed someone who was simply smitten with her and Portia’s still blinded by her love for Ellen.”

It was indeed love at first sight for Portia when she fell in love with Ellen backstage at an awards ceremony in 2004. “Ellen took my breath away,” she’s admitted. “I thought she was the most incredible woman I’d ever met.”

“She saves me every minute of the day,” the comedian adds about her wife’s support. “She’s just the most loving, kind, generous person.”

“These girls will last through the end of time,” insists a mutual friend, and they’ve already set their sights on sneaking away for a long, romantic getaway in December to mark the ten-year anniversary of when they met.

“They've decided to travel to Italy,” a friend reveals to Closer. “They went there to celebrate their fourth wedding anniversary back in 2012, and it’s their favorite place on earth."

Not that Ellen and Portia need to be in Italy to enjoy la dolce vita together. “I fall more in love with Portia all the time,” Ellen says. “We’re perfect for each other…I’ve got love and I’ve got someone who will be with me till the day I die.”
