“The story I have heard the most is that at one point Doris was up for a role when quite young and her age may have been miswritten on the audition form. We don’t know if that’s correct, but if so it could’ve simply stuck for all these years.”

The newly-uncovered birth certificate revealed Doris — whose real name is Doris Mary Kappelhoff — was born on April 2, 1922, in Cincinnati to parents Alma and William Kappelhoff.

In a recent interview with Closer Weekly, Doris opened up about her milestone birthday. “There’s no sense in having regrets,” she exclusively confessed. “I think you have to get through the bad times to appreciate the good things in life.”

“Sometimes I think I should have stayed longer [in show business] and I should have done more films,” Doris said, adding she decided to leave Hollywood because she “got so involved with animals.”

Today, the Calamity Jane star lives a secluded, quiet life more than 300 miles away from Hollywood at her Carmel, CA estate. “Although I’ve loved my singing and acting career, my greatest accomplishment is the important work my two charities — the Doris Day Animal Foundation and the Doris Day Animal League — have been doing for almost 40 years,” she told Closer.
