The President of the US is giving back to the country in a major way. On Thursday, Aug. 31, it was announced that Donald Trump will be donating $1 million to the victims of Hurricane Harvey, a very generous and thoughtful gesture, we must say.

“I am happy to tell you that [Trump] would like to join in the efforts that a lot of the people that we have seen across this country do,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said to the press. “He’s pledging $1 million of personal money to the fund.”

“And he’s actually asked that I check with the folks in this room, since you are very good at research and have been doing a lot of reporting into the groups and organizations that are best and most effective in helping and providing aid,” she continued. “He’d love some suggestions from the folks here and I’d be happy to take those if any of you have them.”

Donald and his wife, Melania Trump, visited Texas this week after the devastating storm that hit at the end of August, leaving many injured, dead, and with a lot of devastation and damages. He additionally tweeted, “Thank you to all of the brave first responders and volunteers from around the United States helping with the ongoing rescue and relief efforts in Texas.”

The 70-year-old isn’t the first public figure to donate to Hurricane Harvey. Stars including Sandra Bullock and Leonardo DiCaprio have each donated $1 million to the cause.

Sandra said of her donation, “There are no politics in eight feet of water. There are human beings in eight feet of water. I’m just grateful I can do it. We all have to do our part.” Our thoughts go out to the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
