Dolly Parton Reveals the Fascinating Reason She Sleeps in Her Makeup

Don’t expect to ever catch Dolly Parton heading to bed makeup-free — the icon isn’t about that at all, and she has quite the reason for it.

“I clean my face in the morning,” the 73-year-old told The New York Times, despite most dermatologists suggesting people always wash their face before bed so that all the makeup and dirt can be removed. The country singer revealed that she instead prefers to call it a night with a face full of makeup in case of an unexpected emergency.

“You never know if you’re going to wreck the [tour] bus, you never know if you’re going to be somewhere in a hotel and there’s going to be a fire,” the legend explained. “So I leave my makeup on at night and clean my face in the morning.”

Dolly has always been about looking fabulous — in fact, she would have similar advice to her younger self. “Wear more wigs! And makeup! More rhinestones!” she once exclusively told Closer Weekly with a laugh. “And keep going. Write more songs. Do more movies!”

Today, the I Am a Rainbow author is still looking great while continuing to work hard. You will soon be able to dress just like her, as she recently signed her first exclusive global licensing deal with IMG, and will begin building her lifestyle empire. As part of the launch, Dolly will sell clothing, jewelry, accessories and even home goods.
