Not only is Halle Berry one of the most famous stars on the planet, but she’s a hands-on mom-of-two. The 50-year-old Oscar winner recently opened up about how hard it is to juggle her acting career with her family life.

“You don’t ever balance it completely,” Halle told People in an interview published on Thursday, July 27. “It’s a constant struggle of a little more time there, a little more time here, and feeling a little bit guilty all the time.”

The Hollywood beauty is the mother of daughter Nahla Ariela, 9, whom she shares with ex Gabriel Aubry, and three-year-old son Maceo-Robert from her marriage to Olivier Martinez, whom she finalized her divorce from last year.

Halle revealed that she leans on her girlfriends for support when she’s feeling particularly down about having to spend time away from her kids. “I just keep telling all my mom friends who work that it’s ok to give ourselves a little slack sometime,” she continued. “And not let the guilt sit on us so heavily and know that we are doing the best we can.”

The actress — who plays a mother desperate to save her son from an abductor in the upcoming film Kidnap — also said that her professional success has made her feel more confident as a parent.

“Having careers and being fulfilled that way makes us better mothers,” she explained. “It makes us better able to operate in our careers with a sense of compassion and empathy that make us better businesswoman. We have to have them both and we have to keep trying to figure it out. And we get it wrong sometimes. And guess what, that is OK too.”
