For this week’s DIY Friday, Tanya Memme headed to Hallmark Channel’s hit daytime talk show, Home & Family, to give a tutorial on how to craft a vintage American flag — the perfect home decor for Independence Day!

Follow the instructions below to craft your own DIY vintage American flag!

Materials:

  • Ribbon

  • Lace

  • Thread fabric

  • Denim

  • Burlap

  • Dowel

  • White fabric paint

  • Star stamp or stencil

  • Scissors

Directions:

  • Start with a dowel to hold everything together at the top

  • Stamp white fabric paint to the denim giving it some imperfections, which adds character to the piece

  • Cut and rip the materials at different lengths

  • Lay out the design to make sure everything is color coordinated

  • Glue everything together and attach to the dowel

  • You can also add other items like rings to give the flag your own personal touch

  • Since the materials are not weather resistant, its best to keep this flag indoors

  • Take your beautiful flag and attach on the wall!
