A decade ago, you couldn’t flip through any TV channels without seeing Diane Sawyer‘s face front and center. The star became a household name after anchoring Good Morning America, acting as a correspondent on 20/20, and hosting ABC World News Tonight. But in the summer of 2014, she announced that she would be giving up her spot to focus on other projects within the network. Since then, Diane’s career has slowed down significantly — but what exactly has she been up to in recent years?

Unfortunately, tragedy struck several months after Diane left World News Tonight, as not only did Diane’s 94-year-old mother Jean Sawyer Hayes die, but her husband of 26 years, director Mike Nichols, passed away just a few weeks later at age 83. “Losing Mike when she was still grieving over her mother is just an incredible emotional toll,” a friend told Closer Weekly at the time. “But Diane is holding up as well as you could hope for.”

After mourning her losses and adjusting to her new life, Diane continued her work for 20/20 with in-depth specials where she’s been conducting some of the most sought-after interviews in the world. In the past few years, the Emmy-winner has sat down with people like Kate del Castillo — the woman who arranged a secret meeting for Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman — as well as fellow anchor Elizabeth Vargas, who opened up about her secret battle with alcoholism. Diane also hosted Bruce Jenner: The Interview, where the former Olympian, who is now known as Caitlyn Jenner, publicly came out as transgender, telling Diane, “I am a woman.”

Most recently, the 72-year-old chatted with actress Ashley Judd, who had stated that she had been sexually harassed by Harvey Weinstein — an interview that helped spark the Time’s Up and Me Too movements. This past November, the star investigated the terrorist group ISIS and the methods they use to try and recruit Americans. Though she may not grace our television screens as often as we’d like, it’s safe to say that Diane is still one of the best in the business — and we can’t wait to see what else she has up her sleeve!
