Derek Hough Is ‘Beyond Happy’ for Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez’s Engagement (Exclusive)

It’s the engagement of the century! Fans and friends of Jennifer Lopez can’t stop gushing about her romantic engagement to Alex Rodriguez — including her World of Dance costar Derek Hough! The Dancing With the Stars alum has become close friends with Jen while filming their competitive dancing show over three seasons and Derek recently opened up about how happy he is for her.

“Oh, I’m super excited! We sent them a voice, sort of video, congratulating them,” the 33-year-old gushed exclusively to Closer Weekly. “And you know, to be really honest with you, I was really excited to be on the show. We’re just super excited to know them. I’m beyond happy for them. I’m just so happy.”

All that said, the six-time DWTS mirrorball trophy champ isn’t just over the moon for Jen, 49, and Alex, 43. “I’m also so happy for all the kids, too,” Derek said of the couple’s blended brood of four children. “They are a big, loving family. It’s awesome. It’s great.”

The ballroom dancer previously admitted that he and his girlfriend, Hayley Erbert, often go on “awesome” double dates with the A-list couple! “Yeah, man. We go out all the time,” Derek revealed to reporters at the Variety and Women in Film in September 2018. “You know, yachts. We’ll see. We’ll see.” The two-time Emmy winner even dished about Jen’s beau: “I love A-Rod, by the way. He’s like the sweetest guy in the world. Amazing, amazing guy.”

Besides being a hit dance TV show judge, an actor and a professional dancer, Derek is also a passionate advocate for The Future of Good. This is a campaign in which U.S. Cellular singles out 16 kids going out of their way to make the future a better place, something Derek fiercely supports.

“I’m never sure exactly what I’ll be doing career-wise and things like that. You can never be 100 percent,” Derek told Closer about what inspires him to be so involved. “But what I can be 100 percent about is I’ll be serving in some way or I’ll always want to work with people in some manner. That’s for certain.”
