Say it ain’t so!
According to a new report, Derek Hough is not returning to Dancing with the Stars for Season 22 after previously appearing on 16 seasons of the show. The sad news comes just weeks after the star’s younger sister Julianne Hough revealed she will not serve as a judge on the popular reality series’ upcoming season.
“Derek will always love Dancing with the Stars and the friends he’s made through the show,” a source revealed to Us Weekly. “And the door isn’t closed there. He’ll always be a part of the family.”
Derek won Season 21 with dance partner Bindi Irwin in November 2015.
Instead of competing to take home his seventh Mirror Ball trophy on the hit show’s 22nd season, the 30-year-old pro dancer will allegedly be prepping for his new role on Broadway in the upcoming musical Singin’ in the Rain.
But, no need to fret quite yet, DWTS fans — this isn’t the first time Derek has made headlines for reportedly leaving the dance competition. In January 2015, the star said he wouldn’t be returning for Season 20 to focus on his role in Radio City Music Hall’s “New York Spring Spectacular,” but a month later rejoined the cast as gymnast Nastia Liukin‘s partner. “Where there’s a will, there’s a way,” he tweeted at the time.
Season 22 of Dancing with the Stars premieres March 21.
